BERG makes its pedal karts on frames of different sizes. Each frame has an age guide and a rider height range, and the guides overlap. We stock three frames, the Buddy, the Rally and the XL, in 5 karts from €299.
This guide goes through them a year at a time, so you can match a kart to the child, or children, who will ride it. The ages and heights are BERG's, from its go-kart buying guide and product pages.
| Frame | BERG age guide | Rider height | Karts we stock | From |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BERG Buddy | 3 to 8 years | 100 to 130 cm | Buddy B.Orange, Buddy Lua | €299 |
| BERG Rally | 4 to 12 years | 110 to 150 cm | Rally NRG Orange, Rally DRT Green | €459 |
| BERG XL | 5 years to adult | 125 to 190 cm | XL B.Pure Blue BFR | €595 |
One answer. The Buddy is the only frame of ours whose guide reaches down to three. Check the height too: BERG's range for the Buddy starts at 100 cm.
Two guides meet here. Most four-year-olds are better on the Buddy, which they can manage straight away. The Rally's height range starts at 110 cm, so it suits only a tall four-year-old.
All three guides apply, which makes these the hardest years. Small and near five: Buddy. In the middle: Rally. Shared with much older children or an adult: XL, once the rider reaches its 125 cm minimum height.
The Buddy's guide has ended. The Rally still fits, but with fewer years left in it, so for a child of eleven or twelve the XL is usually the better buy.
One answer again. The XL is the only frame of ours that BERG rates past twelve, and it is rated up to adult, with a rider height of up to 190 cm.
Age guides are averages; children are not. Stand the rider against a wall in socks and measure. Then compare the height with BERG's ranges in the table: 100 to 130 cm for the Buddy, 110 to 150 cm for the Rally, 125 to 190 cm for the XL.
A rider near the top of a range will outgrow that frame soon. A rider near the bottom of a range may struggle to reach the pedals for a while. If the height sits in two ranges, the other questions decide: who else will ride it, and for how many years.
The buying guide covers those and the rest.

BERG makes more frames and versions than the three we hold in Ireland. If you came looking for one of these, here is BERG's guide for it and the kart of ours that comes closest.
| BERG kart | BERG age guide | Rider height | Nearest we stock |
|---|---|---|---|
| BERG Buzzy BERG's smallest pedal kart. The Buddy starts at 3 years and 100 cm. | 2 and up | 85 to 115 cm | BERG Buddy |
| BERG Reppy Between the Buzzy and the Buddy in size. | 2.5 and up | 95 to 125 cm | BERG Buddy |
| BERG XXL frame A longer frame than the XL, for very tall riders. | 5 and up | up to 210 cm | BERG XL |
| Electric and three-gear XL karts BERG offers the XL and XXL frames with three gears or electric drive. We stock the standard BFR XL. | 5 and up | 125 cm and up | BERG XL |
Among the karts we sell, three, where BERG's guide for the Buddy begins. BERG's own range goes younger: the Buzzy is rated from 2 and the Reppy from 2.5. We do not stock those two.
Height, at the edges. BERG gives each frame a rider height range as well as an age guide. A child must be able to reach the pedals and steer in comfort, and the height range is the better guide to that.
Only if the child is inside BERG's age guide and height range for it today. A kart that is too big is hard to pedal and gets left in the shed. If your child is between two frames, give us their age and height.
Look for the frame whose guide covers every rider. For a five-year-old and a ten-year-old, the Rally and the XL both may, depending on the five-year-old's height. Add a teenager or a parent and only the XL does. A three-year-old is covered by the Buddy alone, so a house with a toddler and a ten-year-old may be looking at two karts.
That is motor karting, and each venue sets its own rules. Most of the Irish venues we checked take solo drivers from about 8, with a minimum height of around 130 cm, and a few run electric karts for younger children. Competitive karting starts at 6 under Motorsport Ireland. Our tracks guide has the detail.
Still between two frames? Ring 01 960 1641, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm. Karting at a track is a different thing: see karting tracks in Ireland.
Tell us the rider's age and height and who else will use the kart. We will say which one we would buy.
